24 DAILY NEWS – As ballots continue to be counted in California, initial trends suggest that progressive candidates in congressional races are struggling against their more moderate Democratic counterparts.
## Congressional Races in San Francisco and Los Angeles
In the contest for Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s seat in San Francisco, YIMBY State Senator Scott Wiener has emerged victorious with over 40% of the vote, as reported by the Associated Press. Local politician Connie Chan has secured the second position, which means progressive candidate Saikat Chakrabarti will not advance to the general election in November.
In Los Angeles, incumbent Rep. Jimmy Gomez, backed by AIPAC, is on track to retain his position despite a House Ethics Committee investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct. He has managed to beat back a challenge from progressive Angela Gonzales-Torres. California’s “jungle primary” system will allow Gonzales-Torres to face Gomez again in the general election due to her securing a spot among the top candidates.
