The measure aimed at Israel failed with a vote of 324-92 on Thursday afternoon, just a day after the passage of a war powers resolution concerning Iran, which signaled a directive to the Trump administration. A total of 91 Democrats supported the resolution proposed by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) aimed at halting U.S. support for Israel’s military actions in Lebanon, while 117 Democrats voted against it.
Democratic leaders cited various drafting concerns as reasons for their opposition to Tlaib’s resolution but expressed a commitment to backing a revised version in the future. Meanwhile, some pro-Israel Democrats opposed any initiatives perceived as limiting Israel’s military strategy in Lebanon.
