Sports Mole previews Sunday’s friendly between Bournemouth and West Ham United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Bournemouth and West Ham United still have a slight chance of winning the 2025 Premier League Summer Series ahead of their meeting in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday.

The two teams have collected three points from their two matches at the tournament, which has left them three points behind leaders Manchester United, who finish their competition against Everton on the same day.

Match preview

Bournemouth played once before heading to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series, with the Cherries recording a 2-1 victory over Hibernian in their pre-season opener on July 15.

Andoni Iraola‘s side then put in a strong performance in the opening match of their pre-season tour of the United States, beating Everton 3-0, with Philip Billing, Dango Ouattara and Daniel Adu-Adjei on the scoresheet.

The Cherries were unable to secure a victory in their second game of the Premier League Summer Series on Wednesday, though, suffering a 4-1 defeat to Man United, who are three points ahead of second-placed Bournemouth and also boast a superior goal difference.

Bournemouth need to beat West Ham and then hope that Everton overcome Man United in order to potentially finish at the summit, although a swing in terms of goal difference would also need to occur.

Iraola’s side, who will open their 2025-26 Premier League campaign against Liverpool on August 15, have brought in Djordje Petrovic and Adrien Truffert this summer, while Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez have been their major outgoings, with the pair joining Real Madrid and Liverpool respectively.

West Ham, meanwhile, started their pre-season with a 3-1 victory over GC Zurich on July 19, but they were beaten 2-1 by Man United in their opening match of the Premier League Summer Series.

The Hammers managed to bounce back in their second match against Everton, running out 2-1 winners, with Lucas Paqueta and Niclas Fullkrug finding the back of the net in a strong performance.

Like Bournemouth, West Ham can still finish at the top of the Premier League Summer Series group, but they need to win here and then hope that Everton can do them a favour against Man United.

Graham Potter‘s side are working towards their 2025-26 Premier League opener, with Sunderland welcoming the London club to the Stadium of Light on August 16.

West Ham have made three signings this summer, securing the services of Jean-Clair Todibo on a permanent basis from Nice, while El Hadji Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters have also joined, with Mohammed Kudus proving to be their biggest outgoing, joining Tottenham Hotspur in a big-money transfer.

Team News

Bournemouth's Illya Zabarnyi pictured in May 2025

Bournemouth head coach Iraola will make changes to the side that took to the field for the first whistle against Man United, with new signing Truffert expected to earn a spot at left-back.

Tyler Adams is also set to be introduced in the middle of midfield, while David Brooks could join Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson in the final third of the field.

Illia Zabarnyi featured against Man United, but the centre-back is allegedly on the verge of making a big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain, so he will not be involved in the clash with the Hammers.

West Ham, meanwhile, have not reported any injury concerns from their win over Everton.

There is expected to be a familiar look to the starting side, with head coach Potter looking to now build patterns of play at a vital stage of pre-season, so the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Fullkrug, Paqueta and Tomas Soucek should all feature from the first whistle this weekend.

Diouf and Walker-Peters could operate as the wing-backs in a 5-3-2 formation, while there is expected to be another spot in the middle of the midfield for James Ward-Prowse.

Bournemouth possible starting lineup:

Petrovic; Hill, Mepham, Senesi, Truffert; Billing, Soler, Adams; Semenyo, Evanilson, Brooks

West Ham United possible starting lineup:

Areola; Walker-Peters, Mavropanos, Todibo, Kilman, Diouf; Ward-Prowse, Soucek, Paqueta; Bowen, Fullkrug

We say: Bournemouth 1-1 West Ham United

Both teams need to triumph to keep their hopes of winning the Premier League Summer Series alive, but we are struggling to separate them here and have ultimately had to settle on a low-scoring draw.
