SAN FRANCISCO — The Golden State Warriors have secured six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler in a massive four-team trade that also involves the Miami Heat, Utah Jazz, and Detroit Pistons — immediately elevating the Warriors’ championship aspirations.
Trade Details
To Warriors: Jimmy Butler
To Heat: Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, top-10 protected 2025 first-round pick, and P.J. Tucker (via Utah)
To Jazz: Dennis Schroder
To Pistons: Lindy Waters III (Warriors) and Josh Richardson (Heat)
Butler’s departure from Miami ends a six-season run in which he became the Heat’s all-time leader in triple-doubles and helped lead them to two NBA Finals appearances. His trade request earlier this season stemmed from reported conflicts with the organization.
Butler’s New Contract
As part of the deal, Butler will forgo his $52 million player option for next season and sign a two-year extension worth between $111 million and $121 million, locking him in with Golden State through 2026-27.
Failed Durant Talks, New Direction
The trade comes after Golden State’s unsuccessful pursuit of Kevin Durant, who showed no interest in returning to the Bay Area. Butler’s acquisition signals a new era for the Warriors, pairing him with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green for a fresh championship push.
A Fresh Start for Butler and the Warriors
For Butler, this move offers both a change of scenery and a chance to contend immediately. For the Warriors, it injects a proven star into their lineup, giving them another elite two-way player as they aim to keep pace in the competitive Western Conference.
“Butler brings grit, leadership, and playoff experience that will be invaluable to Golden State’s title hopes,” NBA analysts told 24 DAILY NEWS.
