24 DAILY NEWS – The mother of the last remaining Afghan detainee at Guantánamo Bay is appealing to the Trump administration for her son’s release after nearly two decades without charges. Safora Yousufzai, in a letter shared with The Intercept, urges President Donald Trump to free 60-year-old Mohammad Rahim, highlighting his deteriorating health and “advanced age.” She argues that his prolonged detention has severely impacted his physical and psychological well-being.
Yousufzai draws attention to the recent release of 64-year-old linguistics researcher Dennis Walter Coyle, who was freed by the Afghan government after a year in captivity, following his family’s plea to the Taliban. The Trump administration took credit for negotiating Coyle’s return, asserting a commitment to “ending unjust detentions overseas.”
