24 DAILY NEWS – The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has utilized drones designed for public safety to monitor a No Kings rally and a protest against the Trump administration’s anti-immigrant policies, according to flight data.
### Drone Deployment Program
Last year, the LAPD launched its “Drone as First Responder” program aimed at protecting lives. This pilot initiative allows for the rapid deployment of drones to emergency scenes before officers arrive. By using drones for aerial surveillance, the LAPD hopes to allocate police resources more efficiently, potentially reducing the number of officers needed for certain incidents.
The LAPD states, “This innovative program not only aims to enhance transparency in Department operations but also prioritizes the protection of individual privacy.” According to their official communication, the drones serve as essential tools for rapid response to emergencies.
