Joe Baldacci by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) in the contested primary for the 2nd Congressional District. This endorsement has sparked protests from the other candidates aiming to replace outgoing Democratic Rep. Jared Golden.
On Monday, the DCCC’s endorsement of Baldacci led to a backlash from the other three candidates. The Penobscot County Democratic Committee, in Baldacci’s home county, plans to vote on a measure to condemn the endorsement this Saturday. The proposal, introduced by former Maine state Senate President Charles Pray, criticizes the DCCC for “total disregard and willfully ignoring” local party rules, which prohibit endorsements in primary races.
