24 DAILY NEWS – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) significantly increased the number of employees assigned to immigration-related tasks during the early days of the second Trump administration, according to findings by The Intercept.
### Expansion of Immigration-Related Personnel
Records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request reveal that the number of FBI personnel working on immigration matters surged from 279 before Trump took office in January 2025 to over 6,500 by September. In total, 9,161 individuals were engaged in immigration-related work between Trump’s inauguration and September 7 of the prior year, out of a workforce of approximately 38,000.
Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, a senior fellow at the American Immigration Council, expressed concern over the scale of this increase. “That is a huge, huge number of people,” he stated, emphasizing the shocking implications of such a diversion of resources.
