24 DAILY NEWS – Chris Rabb won by nearly 15 points in a contentious four-way primary on Tuesday night, signifying a victory for progressives seeking to bolster their presence in Congress with the Pennsylvania state representative.
The race for the 3rd Congressional District highlighted significant divides within the Democratic Party, notably regarding the influence of special interest groups and positions on issues such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This primary showcased a clear distinction between the party’s progressive factions and its moderate wing.
In contrast, the primary for the 7th Congressional District in the Lehigh Valley saw a unified front from both progressive and establishment forces, rallying around Bob Brooks, a firefighters’ union chief, who achieved a significant victory on Tuesday.
Brooks will face freshman Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie in what is anticipated to be a competitive general election in November. Meanwhile, Rabb is expected to easily secure the deep blue seat left vacant by retiring Rep. Dwight Evans.
